It's time to make lanterns – 1708 Gallery's InLight 2017 is November 3!
Each year, 1708's InLight kicks off with the Community Lantern Parade. In preparation, 1708 Gallery organizes workshops throughout the fall to provide an opportunity for Richmonders of all ages to create their own lanterns for the parade.
Here is the 2017 schedule of public workshops. All are free, family-friendly, for all ages/skill levels, and encourage all participants to explore their creative side.

SEPTEMBER 23 1708 Gallery Lantern Making workshop 11 am – 1 pm 1708 Gallery, 319 West Broad Street Make a lantern inspired by the current exhibition at 1708, Bethany Collins: Of a Piece. All ages, free.
OCTOBER 1 Open Studio Sundays at VMFA – Focus on South East Asia Collection 1 – 4 pm Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, 200 North Boulevard Family lantern making workshop in the Education Center at VMFA. All ages, free.
OCTOBER 6 First Fridays Lantern Making 5:30 – 8 pm 1708 Gallery, 319 West Broad Street Join 1708 Gallery on West Broad Street for lantern making. All ages, free.
OCTOBER 6 First Fridays Lantern Making 5:30 – 8 pm Candela Gallery and Books, 214 West Broad Street Join 1708 Gallery at Candela for lantern making. All ages, free. OCTOBER 6 Fall Festival 4 – 8 pm Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School, 1000 Lombardy Street InLight lantern making will be set up in the Arts and Crafts area of the Festival. All ages, free.
OCTOBER 7 QUIRK Gallery Lantern Making 11 am – 3 pm QUIRK Gallery, 207 West Broad Street Create QUIRK inspired pink lanterns. All ages, free.
OCTOBER 14 VMFA Family Day - Hear My Voice: Native American Art of the Past and Present exhibition 11 am – 3 pm Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, 200 North Boulevard 1708 Gallery presents lantern making inspired by the VMFA exhibition Hear My Voice. Read more about the exhibition here. All ages, free.
OCTOBER 18 Family Lantern Making Workshop 10 – 11:30 pm Visual Arts Center of Richmond, 1812 West Main Street Make colorful paper lanterns in this family workshop. All ages. Registration required at visarts.org.
OCTOBER 21 Little Nomad Lantern Making Workshop 3 – 6 pm Little Nomad Children's Store, 104 West Broad Street Join Little Nomad for "stained glass" family lantern making workshop. All ages, free.
OCTOBER 22 Family Lantern Making Workshop 1 – 3:30 pm Visual Arts Center of Richmond, 1812 West Main Street Make colorful paper lanterns in this family workshop. All ages, free.

NOVEMBER 3 InLight Richmond 2017 Community Lantern Parade 6 – 7pm Lantern Making, parade starts at 7 pm West Broad Street in the Arts and Culture District Come join InLight Richmond’s Community Lantern parade. Bring a lantern you have made or make one with us just before the parade kicks off the event. All ages, free.
